Program Overview

In this one-credit honors elective course, IDH 2955, students will learn about the memorialization of history through interdisciplinary perspectives (ex. history and psychology) while studying abroad in Germany. During the course, students will also have unique opportunities to connect with German people, places, and culture through enhancements like an international undergraduate research project and immersive city explorations.

Trip destinations include:

  • Munich – The capital of Bavaria, Munich is a city of contrasts. It is home to both beautifully restored historic areas and cutting-edge industries.
  • Leipzig – An important trade center since at least the Holy Roman Empire, Leipzig is home to one of the oldest universities in Germany, the first experimental psychology lab, and the German National Library.
  • Berlin – The capital of Germany and most populous city in the European Union, Berlin is a cosmopolitan hot spot for art, culture, and politics.

The trip itinerary includes visits to:

Neuschwanstein Castle, the Bach Museum, the Wundt Room, Dachau Concentration Camp, the Reichstag, Brandenberg Gate, the Berlin Wall, and more. In addition, students will have free time to explore museums and shops and enjoy live music and performance artists.
